Change In The Air
This article is chosen because it's what I'm looking for, Changing in the education system. Nowadays, knowledge is not what you can find only in school, but it's all around. The education system should depend on the situation that occurring in the present time.
Malaysia's education stakeholders made an argument on whether they need the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR)examinations should be used or not. Aside from that, They had some arguments on whether the policy on the Teaching of Science and Mathematics in English should be continued or not, and the ongoing problems of heavy school bags.
On June 20, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Deputy said that the two examinations should be abolished. However, the decision would be made in a month or two, said Muhyiddin, an Education Minister.
The first discussion took place in Putrajaya, and was attended by over 120 people. The discussion focused on how to create a new assessment system that does not just focus on a student’s intelligence quotient (IQ), but develops his character and individual talents.
Comparing with the Thai education system, I think Malaysia had just made a great move by focusing on the student abilities more than knowledge.
